aight here my prob. tell me wat u think. i want to apply to out of state schools but dont want all those loans. so instead im gonna apply to a state school thats close to my house. $4k vs $15k .... my stats are not impressive (avg 81, SAT 1750,1850) i want to go to the school close to my house and then tranfer out after freshman year that way i would get more merit aid and not those loans. EFC around 3-4 k

ok -- I am confused.

If you apply to and attend your local state school, the cost for attendance will be less than out of state schools. Then, you plan to transfer after freshman year -- how will that lessen the cost? Scholarships are much harder to come by for transfer students and your stats don't project that you would pull off a 4.0 at college. Plus, the cost of the out of state school will be the same or slightly higher for the last three years -- at most, you will save the loan money that you would have taken out for freshman year.

You need to find a school that suits you (financially and scholastically) for the whole four years. Applying to a school with the intention to transfer is never a good idea -- it doesn't always work out the way you think.

Why do you prefer out of state schools to your local state school?

i had a bad junior year 72 avg before that my avg was around 87. i took 2 AP's got 4,5 took classes at my local Community C and (A, A-,B)

ok -- I can see that the bad junior year really shot your GPA, but that doesn't change what I wrote. You will still have significant loans as a transfer student. the scholarships available to freshman are different than those available to transfer students
