My U.S. Representative with whom I have met and conversed several times sent a letter on my behalf to Yale, but I think she may have spelled my last name incorrectly (it is always misspelled). Do I contact the college to make sure it gets filed correctly or do I assume that they will figure it out?

If you only met them a few times and they misspelled your name, admissions will probably assume they didn't know you very well to begin with. Just my opinion.

They aren't crazy about those sorts of letters, so I wouldn't pursue it if I were in your place.

Thanks, that's exactly how I felt.

Okay, now I am really worried. Does the fact that I sent this completely wreck any of my chances? I knew better than to send it, but in a moment of weakness bowed to parental pressure (forgetting that my parents have an antiquated view of the college admissions process). If the letter was sent after the Dec 1, is there a good chance they never even looked at it or they had already made a decision?
(Although, she DID spell my name right which I guess makes it slightly less lame, but still transparent.)

There's nothing wrong with the letter. It may not be a huge help, but it certainly won't hurt. Good luck tomorrow.
