To those who are going to Dimensions, some questions:

Who's going?
Is there on-campus housing for us to stay, or do we have to stay in hotels?
What do they do there?
Anything else anyone wanna add?

Dimensions at Dartmouth is Dartmouth's admitted students days.

Propective freshmen are hosted by current freshmen in the dorms.

Sit in on classes, meet other prospective freshmen, attend parties, functions , etc. The whole gist of dimensions is to sway you into attending Dartmouth.

Dimensions is great and it's what convinced me to come here. Don't miss it if you get the chance. :)

i've heard many great things about dimensions..can't wait to go :)

It sounds great! I'm going

Yeah Dimensions is a lot of fun.

just so everybody knows... Dimensions is not for Early Decision students. Only if you have been accepted RD. While you can still go if you got in ED, you must get your own arrangements for getting there/hotel arrangements. Some previous ED people have had friends who would host them, but remember, even your friends might not be able to host you, because they are hosting OTHER people already.

Is there a way to get financial aid to go to Dimensions?

While ED students are not "invited" to attend Dimensions, they are more then welcomed to attend. As ridonkulous0 states, you will be responsible for your own transportation and arrangement. Over the past few years there have been some CC posters who have offered to host ED students, so you never know. If you do have a friend or sibling in attendance, contact them to see if they can host you.

Even if you got in ED, if you call the admissions office ASAP, they will have the opportunity to to blitz out to freshmen to see if more people will sign up to be hosts.

Depending on where you are coming from the answer is yes. If you have recieved an invitation with your likely letter contact the admissions office. They are very amenable and will try to work with you.
If you are low income, then definitely they will work to make it happen for you. If you are receiving FA from Dartmouth, then they will still work with you to make it affordable (I am not sure if they pay for international students, so that will definitely have to be a call to admissions).

If you are coming from the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) there will be a bus leaving NYC that will take you to Dimensions.

I got in ED... would it be worth the trouble of paying for / finding housing for Dimensions?

^probably. It's a lot of fun, and you'll get the chance to meet some of your future classmates, as well as be entertained by a lot of the student organizations who want to recruit future freshman!

Sybbie, do you know how much they will cover for a student coming from Washington? I received the postcard about Dimensions with my likely letter... is that the invitation you were referring to?

Oh dang! We have to pay to go?! I got the invitation as well... but I was under the assumption that they pay for travel. My friend went to another school's prefrosh weekend and they paid for him.... Dartmouth is different?

Yes. Call admissions and talk to them about your desire to attend. Explain your situation and I am quite sure they will help you to get to Hanover .

Yeah, I highly recommend going if you can. It's a lot of fun, although it's mostly geared towards convincing RD students that Dartmouth is the place they want to go. If you can't go though, don't worry about it - it's really not a big deal.

How exactly do people get to this event? Fly into Boston, I'm guessing, and then what?

If you fly into boston, you can catch the Dartmouth coach at logan (~$55 round trip) that will drop you off on campus (directly in front of the Hanover Inn).

Here is the Dartmouth coach schedule:

Dartmouth Coach - Bus Schedule for New Hampshire's Upper Valley to Boston and Logan Airport

You can fly into Manchester, New Hampshire as well, which is about an hour away I think. also there is an airport in West Lebanon. It might be hard to find flights into and out of this airport because it is so small, but if I recall correctly they fly to NYC everyday.

Thanks for the info!

We live in NYC and after 4 years of flying back and forth to get back to Hanover, I can tell you first hand that flying to West Leb & Manchester:

Is not easy as there are very limited # of flights and if you have to fly out of long island it is a very long haul coming from the city. In addition there are very limited connections to bring you to Hanover.

Is really expensive $300-$400 as compared to catching flights from NYC to Boston (Jet Blue and pretty much every other major airline flies every hour and you can get a flight from $59 - $79, depending on when you book and there are more possibilities to connecting to the Dartmouth coach)
