To robinhood: I'm from NJ too, and usually I leave from penn station in NY, taking the vermonter to white river, which is usually a 7 hr ride. It should leave around 11am or so. Cost roundtrip is about $90. Hope that helps.

Hi Robinhood,

If your son is going to Dimensions, your best bet would be to book him a seat on one the Dartmouth buses that they will have going to dimensions. These buses usually leave from Penn Station or somewhere centrally located in NYC (where if you are coming on the LIRR, NJTransit, Path, Metronorth or NYC transit) it will not be hard to get to. This way he gets to meet other prospective students.

If you are going there are a number of options; your best bet, if you can is to drive then you can stay in white river junction (about 1 exit 10 minute max drive to the campus). The only thing actually *in[/] Hanover is the Hanover Inn (right on campus, but very pricy).

If you were to take the amtrak to WRJ, then you need to take a cab to wherever you are going to stay and take car service back and forth to campus.

For those who are more organized and book in advance (this would not be my kid), you can fly into boston and take the Dartmouth coach to campus or fly into Lebanon and take a short cab ride to the campus.

momofrover, don't feel bad as year over year I would gently nudge chicky to book a seat on one of the Dartmouth buses coming to NYC for thanksgiving break and year over year she did not do it (they book fast and is can be a bit of a procrastinator).

robin:

Dimensions is primarily for the kids; few parents attend....

thanks to all for the info on transportation from NJ. What are you guys packing for the Dimesions trip? Sleeping bag, clothes, otehr regular stuff anything else?

Well that was oh-so-tactfully ignored.

I just found out that I'll be hosting this weekend - I can't wait to meet my prospie!

I was thinking of taking the Fung Wah bus to Boston South Station, then the Dartmouth Coach over to Dartmouth. Which do you think is best?

Either way's fine. I think the train would be more comfortable. The Chinatown bus (although I've never taken it) seems to be a little cramped. Dartmouth Coach is the **** though.

Sneamia,

Why don't you just take one the Dartmouth buses that will be leaving from NYC? At least this way you are getting the opportunity to meet other prospective students. (contact admissions to see if you can get a seat on the bus)

ED. :/

10chr.

if you do decide to travel via amtrak book a business class seat. it is not much more expensive and it is much more comfortable than the standard seating.

how does the dartmouth coach work if youre getting on from logan airport?
you're supposed to just find where it is and pay the driver?

Sneamia I forgot, my bad.

But since you have to pay for a seat on the bus, call admissions and ask them if there are any seats available (they are a pretty amenable bunch). What is the worse that can happen? They say no and you make arrangements. If they say yes, then you can get a seat.

Lugburz-

Dartmouth Coach is very easy from Logan. Basically you just exit out of the baggage area and the bus will pick you up at the "Scheduled Buses" sign. Check out the instructions here. The bus runs every two hours, so you need to be sure you're out there, waiting a few minutes in advance.

My D will be getting to Dimensions that way, too.

Thanks, sybbie. I shot them an email yesterday afternoon, and they reserved me a seat today. :)

That is so great!!!

I am glad that it has all worked out nothing like a road trip with your prospective new classmates. Have a great time>

so how does the host thing work?
Do I choose a host that I know? or are they like…random? What if I don’t know anyone who goes to Dartmouth?

is Dimensions only for students who get likely letters? or if, on april 1st (im PRAYING) i get in, would i be invited to attend?

Students who get in on March 31st are also invited to Dimensions.

Hosts are assigned more or less randomly as far as I can tell. My daughter did not know anyone at Dartmouth prior to Dimensions.

I’m so excited for this!
:D
