If accepted and one decides to attend Dimensions weekend...Do students have to find their own way up to Dartmouth?

oh by the way.. anyone plan on going if they get in?

Don't they provide the transportation for you?

It depends. If you live near New York or CT or NJ, there's a bus that will take you to Dimensions (and from Boston too I think). If you live further away, you fly into the airport and there's a bus that takes you from there to campus (a little over an hour). But, some people drive up with parents. It's up to you. If you're accepted there will be info sent to you explaining it all.

As far as I've heard, here is the situation:

For students admitted ED, a formal invitation to Dimensions is not extended. However, they are still welcome to attend if they make their own arrangements--I'll be hosting an ED student this year.

For RD, those students within reasonable distance of the bus routes (from NYC and Boston through parts of New England, if I'm not mistaken), they can purchase transportation for the bus to Dartmouth. Others will have to make their own arrangements. These can include driving, flying into Boston Logan and taking the Dartmouth Coach to campus, or flying into NYC/Hartford Bradley/Burlington/Manchester etc. and taking Greyhound/VT Transit to White River Junction, VT. From there, take a cab or Advance Transit (the latter only runs on weekdays generally during work hours) to campus. Hope this helps!

What exactly do we do at Dimensions?

The short answer: pretty much what you want to.

They'll keep you busy though, with some barbecues, varied events and tours, and the official Class of '10 welcome that should not be missed! You'll also have time to explore on your own, sit in on some classes, learn about the departments and organizations, and meet current and future Dartmouth students--we're more than happy to answer questions.

I've heard that they instruct the frats not to serve alcohol during the weekend, so if that's your thing, hopefully you can hold off for a few days.

So we find our own transportation if we wanna go to Dimensions?

I think i might go to decide between this and another school.

goodluck... whats the other school?

Duke; i'm also waiting on financial aid info though, so that could be the deciding factor.

There is definitely transportation from Manchester airport to campus, for free if you're flying in on the 19th and transportation back to the airport on the 22nd. (so no worries about taking Vermont Transit on your own) Again, this info will be sent to you once you officially get in.

A very large number of the admitted students go to Dimensions. As a parent I was very impressed with the way Dartmouth handled Dimensions last year. Providing transportation for a very nominal fee, providing meal vouchers, and a very full schedule. And I don't know if this was true for everyone, but D was assigned to a student's dorm room along with another admitted student, so she had someone to go to the activities with.

Even EDs go, they just find their own transportation and stay with people they know in the dorms.

Many students from the areas where transportation is provided go on their own, and not with parents, although I remember D saying there were some parents there.

I know Dimensions really sold D on Dartmouth. Just being part of the campus for 3 or 4 days. Sitting in on some classes, meeting people by living in the dorms. You get a much better sense of the school than from one day or one overnight.

D took one of the buses up for Dimensions, and then recognized a number of people from the area on the bus up for the DOC trip as well as when she got to school.

oh so dimensions is from the 19th - 22nd?

Yes, my dear...dimensions is from the 19th to the 22nd...so hurry up and register! ;)

lol Uhhhm.

once I find out if I'm in or not hehe!

o lordy...did u get a likely letter, too? I'm from NYC and I got mine on 3/13

For ED acceptees looking for a place to stay during Dimensions, I'm open. PM me for details.

And for those who are poor and or don't think they can afford to make travel arrangements I recommend that you call the admissions office, they might be helpful... just a tip... 2 years ago Amherst had offered to fly me out from Oregon and I called Dartmouth because I really wanted to be able to compare the two. They made a confirmation call to the FinAid office and then transferred me to the travel agency where they took care of everything... the trip made my decision I had visited Amherst first and was impressed but when I stepped off the Dartmouth Coach and saw the silhouette of Baker Library, I instantly fell in love, I think I still am... Go to Dimensions, let the New Hampshire air cloud your brain with all that is Dartmouth, you wont regret it.

oh wow Jester!
thanks for the info =)
