I'm just wondering when will the dining app be online to complete?

Also, another pressing question...the red plan, C1, says 32 meals with $32 dinextra dollars every two weeks. two weeks, 14 days, with 3 meals a day, comes out to 42 meals. How are we supposed to eat 10 more meals with just $32? if we want to eat all 42 meals in the cafeteria, will that be allowed? or is it really only 32 meals?

All I know is that we were advised to select the smallest meal plan with the biggest proportion of DineX dollars. Mathson did so and still always had extra dollars. Admittedly he's not a big eater, and always made himself a bowl of cereal in his room for breakfast.

I think there is breakfast, lunch, and dinner Mon thru Fri and brunch and dinner Sat and Sunday. Which is 19 meals per week or 38 every two weeks. If you wanted to eat all your meals in the cafeteria then choose the green plan A1 with 38 meals.
BUT Mathmom is correct, most folks get the smaller meal plan. Many times you may not have time to eat a full meal and if you do not use them all they do not carry over.

I would like some confirmation on the dining application:

I'm confused because the welcome packet I received in the mail states May 30th as the due date for the dining application (and housing license agreement), but on the online checklist, it says the dining application will be available on the 26th of May, and due on June 15th. Does this mean that CMU changed the deadline?

Also, I am a terrible navigator of the CMU site; I can't seem to find any information on the different types of meal plans. Is there a page with comparison charts for the different plans?

How easy is it to switch meal plans during the year? Do i have to wait until a semester is over before I switch to another meal plan? For example, say I wanna start with the Red A1 meal plan and switch to a Red A3. would that be possible since it's within the Red plan so the price is gonna be the same?

Also, where can we use DineXtra dollars? Is it physical cash and do we use them at the various restaurants across campus? Can we also, say, buy some cereal and milk off campus with DineXtra dollars?

I recall there being a two week grace period during which you could change your meal plan, afterwards you were locked into it for the rest of the semester.

DineX is linked to your ID card and will be accepted at all food locations around campus. They stopped allowing its use in the school's convenience store ages ago, but you can still stock up on sodas and snacks at the Underground and the International Market (if it's still called that, I know they changed the names of a bunch of places since I was on the meal plan).

I don't know of anywhere off campus you can use DineX, but there are a handful of places which will accept PlaidCa$h, as well as a bunch of vending machines scattered around campus.

A bunch of stuff has changed with regards to the dining plan somewhat recently, including allowing use of dineXtra at Entropy...

DineXtra dollars are like a gift card on your ID that can only be used for food places on campus. This includes food items purchased in Entropy, the on campus convenience store (where you could buy overpriced milk and cereal), as well as normal dining places on campus that are food court style, the cafeteria (Schatz), which is open M-Th for breakfast and dinner, F for breakfast, and on weekends for brunch, and a few places off campus. As far as I know, the off campus places you can use DineXtra at are the Subway on Craig St., a few blocks from campus, Vocelli's Pizza, which is terrible but delivers, and Eat 'n Park, a local Denny's-style restaurant with a location about a 40 minute walk from campus in Squirrel Hill.

DineXtra and meal blocks both expire every two weeks. It stinks, but everyone lives with it, stocking up on drinks/non perishables the night that it expires, or getting a bunch of pizza delivered.

Most college students don't eat 3 meals a day; many of them skip breakfast. I didn't skip breakfast; instead I used my breakfast block at Ginger's, which gave me substantially more food than I could eat for breakfast - something like a piece of fruit and two granola bars plus a couple of bottles of water, or two pastries and a cup of coffee. Additionally, you probably don't want to eat all your meals on campus - it's good to get off campus and eat real food sometimes, even if that means Subway. You will probably want to have an excuse to eat off campus sometimes. That said, if you're really worried about it, there are always some opportunities for free food if you just pay attention to emails that get sent out about events. :) You won't go hungry, unless you eat amazing amounts of food. I've only ever met one person who was unhappy with the amount of food on the lowest level of meal plan.

Everyone last year told us to take the smallest plan you are allowed to sign up for with the most flexible dollars. As you said, if it's not enough food you can always change your plan before the grace period. My son lived in one of the apartments and said the commuter plan would have been more than enough for him. (He ate breakfast in the apartment.) Next year he won't be on the plan at all. He figures even if he eats CMU food he can eat for less than the meal plans.
