apparently, the residence hall payment includes $2893 dining dollars. i'm guessing $2893 is a base amount that i can't lower? i'm not familiar with cafeteria pricing, but it seems like $2893 is a bit excessive. i may be totally wrong about that though. fyi i'm a girl, i eat a moderate amount, i'm average size/weight and i try to eat 3 meals a day.

that being said, i'm thinking about getting triton cash instead. i'd like some feedback on that service and if you would recommend that to me. thanks

If you’re living on campus, you are required to have dining dollars and a meal plan.
You can use Tritoncash additionally at the on-campus restaurants such as rubios, subway, etc but it will be in addition to the fees you pay for your required dining plan (the $2893 - which is the minimum, unfortunately)

PS both are easy to use, all your dining dollars/triton cash are loaded onto your UCSD ID card.

It is a bit excessive to some people. I know people that ran out of dining dollars by the end of Winter quarter and other people like me who had a lot extra at the end of the year. On-campus housing requires the dining dollars. There is no option to not pick it.

Tritoncash is really useful…at least to me. I don’t usually carry my wallet around with me everywhere so if I feel hungry and want some food, I just get my card swiped. Same with laundry, I don’t have to get a bunch of change to do my laundry.

P.S. Dining dollars go a lot further than just dining hall food. There’s little convenience like stores (Goodie’s, Earl’s, Roger’s, The village) that you can use your dining dollars at.

If you eat your 3 meals a day, $2893 won’t be excessive.

agreed - it’s grossly overpriced

will the meal plan be enough for me? im a guy and i eat a lot. i try to get in around 3000 calories a day. will the meal plan be sufficient for me?

Even if it’s not, you shouldn’t purchase the extra meal points plan. You get 10% off dining halls if you use triton cash and someone before calculated that it was relatively the same price as dining dollars with their 100 dollar bonus after a certain amount purchased.

@lifeistough, most of the guys I know ran out of meal points sometime during winter or spring quarter. It’s not a big deal though, you can then just add tritoncash or buy extra dining dollars when the time comes.

2800 isn’t that much honestly considering how much the food costs.

if you want to eat 3 meals a day AND get drinks, you’ll run out early spring quarter, maybe even winter quarter.

you get approximately 82 dollars a week i believe, which comes out to a little under 12 bucks a day. sandwiches are usually 4-6 bucks, the actual meals are usually around 5-8 bucks, etc. so you’ll definitely be spending more than 12 bucks a day. but if you go home often or bring your own cup of noodles or something, you should be fine. just get some triton cash and eat at price center once ur outta dining dollars.
