Dining Halls over Thanksgiving Break

Are the dining halls open for regular meal service over the 4 day Thanksgiving weekend? Are they even open at all? What about for Thanksgiving day? For the students who don't go home, what options do they have if they don't wrangle an invitation to a friend's home? Are there any restaurants in Hyde Park that are usually open for Thanksgiving day?

Last year S had Thanksgiving dinner at the RA’s and I think they leave at least one of the dining halls open for the weekend.

Dining halls are open for some regular meals during the Thanksgiving weekend, so you’ll definitely be able to get food if you don’t go home or go with someone else. Dining services provides quite a nice midafternoon meal with traditional Thanksgiving food on Thanksgiving itself- otherwise, your house is key. Resident heads and RAs specifically have a lot going on (sometimes a full Thanksgiving meal, sometimes a potluck, but definitely a meal and some activities) on Thanksgiving and over the weekend so nobody feels left out; my house’s RHs do a Thanksgiving dinner for students who stay, as well as a fun, make-anything-you-want potluck for all students the Saturday before Thanksgiving so people can show off their delicious cooking skills and celebrate together when everyone is still around.

Thanksgiving is enough fun that some of my D’s friends who lived close decided to stay on campus 2nd year. It was the opposite of trying to “wrangle an invitation.”

There was a column about this in the Maroon last week.

Thanks for all the info and reassurances. Good to know she won’t have to break out the ramen.
