Dining off campus

Been to Furman for one quick visit a few years ago. Will be there again next month wit my daughter for a full tour and closer look. Granted, we were only on campus breifly, but it seemed as if the campus (while beautiful) was a bit isolated and there isn’t anything within walking distance. Is a car a must? Do students really take a shuttle bus to Greenville?

Both Ds did have a car while there. They had friends and roommates who did not have cars, and it was always possible to get a ride. When going into Greenville, most carpool, and there is a shuttle. Closer than Greenville, while not within walking distance, there is Travelers Rest, which has a Walmart and some restaurants, and Cherrydale, which has some restaurants, shops, grocery stores.

I don’t think a car is a must. It is a plus. However so many students have cars that going off campus is always easy. My daughter goes DT for church with friends and they eat DT once a week or so. Furman has bikes for rent, no cost. My daughter and her friends will bike to Traveler’s Rest and grab lunch at Williams Hardware, Tandem or the Brewery. Cherrydale is close as well. The strip mall outside the back gate has a Publix and a few eateries.
