Dining Plan for Sophomore in Stouffer/Mayer Hall

Hi folks,

I was wondering what the best meal plan for an Eng sophomore, living in Mayer next year would be? The 1 BR apt has a kitchenette, so my son can reduce his current meal plan to some degree, but I'm doubtful that they'll be eating all their meals in their apt.

Would the Market Plan be a good compromise? He's had the Blue Plan this year, which held him pretty well on meals, though short on dining dollars. I just had to add $50 to get him through these last two weeks.

Not sure if anyone has any input, but would love advice from folks with experience.

Thanks!

In all honesty,a lot of upperclassmen don’t even bother with dining plans, especially here in Mayer. Most kids I know just do the Liberty Plan (I think it was called), but really, Stouffer/Mayer residents just grab things from Wawa across the street or go to the food joints on 40th or food trucks.

Thanks, Max. There are 6 plans cheaper than Liberty for upperclassmen, some with as little as 50 meals, and the rest Dining Dollars. We were trying to pick one that makes the most sense, knowing that grabbing meals elsewhere, and the occasional dining at home will happen!
Do you have a plan now? What year are you?

I’m a senior. I had the Liberty plan freshman year and managed to JUST use all my meals/dining dollars. Market is what I used sophomore year, and it was a good compromise considering how often my friends went to dining halls to eat, although if I could do it over again I wouldn’t have bothered. 1920’s is the closest dining hall to Mayer, but most kids get quite tired of it relatively quickly. That, coupled with the fact that Mayer has kitchens in practically every room, as well as the fact that there are so many cheap restaurants and places to get food around Mayer… it all makes meal plans a bit obsolete and needlessly expensive relative to all other options. However, this all obviously depends on your son’s preferences. Market is still a good compromise in terms of a meal plan, but it may be cheaper/more effective to do without one.
