Any suggestions as to which one to choose? I'm looking at a red plan, but the different DineX values is kind of confusing.

Take the cheapest one for the freshmen, and I suggest having the highest dineX number because you can’t always use blocks and blocks are sometimes hard to finish within the 2 weeks, so once they reset, you lose what you didn’t spend. Unlike blocks, dineX lasts the whole semester

red 9 has the most dineX and the fewest blocks. the idea of blocks is stupid and that’s where you lose all your money. you will see what i mean. however, it’s the best the plan in my opinion.

oh by the way dineX is money that can only be used in school run restaurants. it renews every semester. there are 2 outside restaurants that accept it.

Red 9 all the way.

Subway, Vocelli’s (a pretty decent pizza joint that delivers to dorms) and Eat n’ Park all use Dinex, so when you’re sick of campus food, you still have some places to eat off campus. Plus, dinex is pretty useful when you want to grab a quick snack from Entropy (the university mart) or any restaurant on campus instead of buying a whole bock and whatnot.

Most people agree that Red 9 is the way to go. Any other colors generally just get you way more than you’ll ever want to eat (Red 9 is already too much for most), and so aren’t worth the price. Within the Red plans, there’s really no reason to go Red 7 or Red 8 because the extra DineX you get more than covers the meals you miss out on.

I’m a current freshman at CMU.
If you decide to live in a campus affiliated apartment(residence on fifth is the only one I’m aware of for freshman apartments), then you could also choose a yellow plan which saves you a ton of money.
It’s only about half the price of red 9 which is the next cheapest plan available for freshman.
My D did Red 9 when she was a freshman and it was more than enough. Most weeks she really didn’t even use all her swipes.
Red 9 all the way. I still have enough leftover to sell to seniors from my high school, because it isn’t compulsory after freshman year.
Explain how one “sells” the leftover dining? Does this mean you can carry over to the following year? Confused. Also, if you live in the campus apartments, you can take the yellow plan but that plan is not offered if in a dorm? Please explain, thanks so much!
You cannot “sell” leftover dining (at least legally).
No, you cannot carry over to the following year. Use it or lose it.
Can’t answer you about yellow plan and apartment living.
Almost EVERY student I met at CMU was on Red-9. Pretty much everyone universally recommends that…
Just get Red 9. Or Yellow 10 if you can (based on housing).
Red 9.
