dining report for newbies

Here's a thread for newly admitted students and parents who are planning spring trips to NOLA. Thanks to FC and idad and others our freshman daughter and family have been dining like royalty in New Orleans. FC, I finally went to Dante's Kitchen this past week, when I visited DD and took her and 5 friends. It was excellent food and the most authentic southern food we've eaten. I also managed to finally get a burger at Camilias and loved it. Coming from NYC a delicious burger for $3.99 is a miracle. Next time I am going to try the Reuben for $7. Other reviewers please chime in and let's distract the trolls!

idad gets the credit for Dante’s. He was fan #1 on here. It is a treat though, as is Camellia Grill. Where your servers at Camellia entertaining as well? Often they are worth the price of the food themselves.

The servers were entertaining. Had half the place sing a rap cheer for The Saints! It would be hard to be sad or depressed at Camilias!

i have always heard that jimmy buffet was singing about Camellia Grill when he wrote the song “cheeseburger in paradise”

^^^ No, that was a cb in St. Barts. <true></true>

CG has always been famous for omlets and pecan pie.

You haven’t lived until you do the Jazz Brunch at Commanders.

I will be in NOLA Monday through Wednesday and am looking forward to Domilise’s, Dante’s and my first visit to Jacques-Imo’s.
