Dining Schedule...

I was going over my schedule and took note on the Marketplace hours you can look up on the Duke Dining Service Page. For the Marketplace opening hours it lists:

Marketplace (times with a "*" next to them are included in the freshman board plan)

Monday through Thursday:
7:30am-11am*
12pm-2:30pm
5pm-8pm*

Friday
7:30am-11am*
12pm-2:30pm

So...I was taking a look at my schedule. On most days of the week, my class schedule begins at 8:30am and ends around 11:30am. Does that mean that if I decide to eat at 12-2:30pm for lunch in the Marketplace, I have to pay extra money/it isn't included in my contract? If so...3rd window sucked lol.
I honestly am not sure if I could bring myself to make up early enough each morning to each my my breakfast/lunch before 8:30 class each day.
Any clear up on this?

Along with that, I can't remember which dining plan I got, but I know it was the cheapest because everyone says you can add points later. How does the point system exactly work (like, cheese is 2 points?) Does that go on my flex card?? Will that be enough?

Good question, Acc...I'm now wondering that same thing.

And I just thought up a random, completely unrelated question. If I want to work out at the East Campus Gym (Brodie), can I just use my card for entrance? Or is there some special fee I have to pay (didn't see that option on anything I signed up for....so I'm hoping its free).

Alright...

To answer the first question, I'm pretty sure that they'll be having meal equivalency again this year. This means that if you miss breakfast, you get a certain amount of money towards lunch that day. If you miss both breakfast and lunch, you're out of luck.

Accionara, check your bursar bill on ACES. It should say how much your dining plan costs. If I remember correctly, the smallest amount is 540. It'll say "dining plan __" and then have an amount. That's how many food points you get for the semester. Think of one food point as one dollar, because that's what it's equivalent to. Food points and FLEX are accessed via your DukeCards. I found 540 to be enough, while I had friends who had to add on food points every other week.

And gym entrance is granted via DukeCard as well (so you can see that the DukeCard will be your most prized possession around campus for the next four years).

seahorse summed everything up nicely. Also for breakfast the Marketplace has a Breakfast on the Run option where you get to choose a few portable breakfast stuff and a drink. I used that a lot when I was running late. The dining services website http://www.dining.duke.edu/plans_first_yr.html doesn't mention a meal equivalency program, but like seahorse I thought that they were going to have that again.

I think there were several changes to the Dining system at Duke for the upcoming year (as detailed in an email sent out by Elliot Wolf). The dinner hours have been extended to 9pm, you can make up missed dinners on fridays and saturdays now, "and students can use the full value of missed breakfasts towards lunch at the Marketplace." So i guess that means missed breakfast = lunch?

Not necessarily... he said that the full value of breakfast can be used towards lunch. That means that I think you have 6.95 or 7.95 (I can't remember) to put towards lunch, which is a la carte instead of all-you-can-eat. Still, that's a really good deal... last year, we could get chicken fingers, fries, and a drink for the 4 bucks we had for meal equivalency.

chicken fingers...mmmmm
