Direct Admission to the Kelley School of Business

In order to get Direct Admission to the Kelley School of Business for Fall 2010, an applicant must have a 3.7 UW GPA and a 1270 SAT.

I have a 3.5 UW GPA and a 1490 SAT (800 math, 690 critical reading). It says on the website that "students who lack only one of the criterion may be eligible to petition for direct admission." Since I lack the GPA to gain direct admission, am I "eligible" to petition for direct admission? If so, what are my chances to get direct admission? Also, does anyone know about how many students who petition for direct admission actually receive it?

Thanks.

They say they look at unweighted gpa, but I think they still look at weighted gpa instead (I talked with an admissions person today and he said they still look at weighted). If they are only taking unweighted or you still lack the weighted gpa, yes you are able to petition, and as long as you give a couple valid reasons (i.e. taking tough classes in high school, starting your own business, contributing to the school in some way) they will accept you. Make sure to do a good job though; it’s obvious who spends time on their petitions and who doesn’t. Also, everyone who gets direct admission gets a 9k/year scholarship (not sure about petitioning people). If your weighted GPA is higher than a 3.7 and they are still taking weighted, you are good.

Sweet I have a 4.0 weighted GPA, so if they still take weighted, I am in!! That too with a 9k/year scholarship. Damn thats nice.

Unless it has just recently changed 9k a year and DA do not go hand in hand. I was a DA with only the 5k a year scholarship until I retook the ACT and did better.

So like I said, unless they changed anything recently, the scholarships have higher requirements.

You’re right; here are the requirements for the 9k:

Minimum SAT score of 1330 or minimum ACT score of 30
Minimum GPA of 3.80 on a 4.0 scale

Looks like Letsgo2college still qualifies for the 9K/year based upon that criteria.

Their website goes into detail on how they use only unweighted (and core classes) to compute the GPA for the automatic scholarship purposes, so I’m guessing they might use a different GPA calculation for scholarships than they do for direct admits to Kelley. It’s hard to get a straight answer anymore. . .

Beth’s Mom,

Sorry to have to correct you, but actually, the IU Scholarship site says exactly the opposite of what you said in your post.

The details are here:

–and note that in answer to the question:
“What GPA is used for Automatic Application Scholarships?”

the answer given is:
“When students apply for admission to IU, whichever cumulative GPA on the student’s transcript is higher (weighted or unweighted) will be utilized for admission and scholarship consideration.”
