Direct Admit to Computer Science

I am trying to determine my chance of getting direct admission to the computer science programs. If any of you, or people you know, applied and did/didn't get in, would you mind posting the stats or what you perceive the averages to be. I just finished up my Junior year with 3.67 unweighted and 4.1 weighted GPA at a nationally ranked high school with a 29 ACT and 1330/1600 SAT. Any information would be beneficial. Thanks

Hello,

I have been accepted to CS starting this fall and I can tell you my stats: 4.0GPA with full AP schedules 33 ACT and 400+ hours of Community Service. My school is also a nationally ranked high school and other folks from my school who got in have very similar stats as well: 3.9~4.0GPA ~2250SAT.

At the CSE prospective students info session, the advisers stated that the recommended GPA was 3.8-4.0UW and a 2100+ SAT or 32+ ACT but I feel that the average stats of those who get in are slightly above that as CSE admission has become more competitive.

Unfortunately with your current stats, I do not feel that you will get in, but then again most CSE students enter the program through general admission so you can work on getting in through that.

I don’t think you have a chance, honestly, nothing personal. Here’s my reasoning:

You’re GPA is too low (The only GPA UW looks at is the unweighted one FYI). I’ve had friends who’ve had 3.8 GPAs with 9 total IB classes (ACT ranging from 28 to 32) and no direct admit into CS.

Good grades in physics and math are extremely important. If you don’t have As in these classes, you’ve got no chance. UW considers good grades in those two courses to be more important than having experience with programming.

You’re ACT is a bit low for a direct admit into such a competitive major as CS, the usual ACT is 32+.

I know the above because I’ve asked the admissions advisers about a direct admit into CS.

I was accepted as a direct admit last year with 1510/1600 SAT, 3.97 unweighted high school gpa and 3.95 cc gpa (since I did running start full time).
