Direct admit to kelley?

I know this has been discussed, but I'm still a tad confused. I understand that barring some freak of nature, you apparently don't get accepted directly into Kelley without a certain GPA/Test score minimum.

I also see that in general, if you are admitted, you get a letter 2-4 weeks after acceptance? But I'm confused because I see recently accepted people posting "Direct Admit" to Kelley. Are they just assuming because they've got real pretty GPAs and tests? or can it be found somewhere on the Application status online as well?

My Son, who is in fact way under the test score minimum, is still showing on his acceptance status page: School Kelley
Major: Management
He was admitted a 2-3 weeks back, we have received an IU "welcome & acceptance letter in the mail, but no mention of his major or school on that.

If your son is under the minimum requirements, then it is unlikely that he would be in Kelley unless somebody made a mistake, as the direct admissions standards are very clear cut. Some students posting here were accepted up to two or three months ago, so they have received e-mail or snail mail letters congratulating them on their admission to Kelley. The Kelley admit letter does not come with the acceptance package from IU. Some students who meet one requirement for Kelley (gpa [or top 10% class rank] or standardized test score) but are close on the other can petition to be accepted, but I’ve never heard of somebody getting accepted without petitioning if they do not meet both standards.

You could call Kelley and ask about it. tel. 812 855-0611

His Kelley status will not appear online. That page just indicates his desired major/school; the only way you are notified is by a letter. Since he does not meet the test score minimum, he will not initially get in, but he can petition to be a direct admit once he receives that letter. If his GPA is at least a bit above 3.7 and/or he has some extracurriculars, I would think he’d get in.

This past year, Kelley fell short on the number of direct admits that enrolled (much less than they wanted)and now are going to accept more freshman who apply at the end of the year, so I’d think that they would admit more incoming freshman as direct admits to avoid a shortage in enrolled direct admits again. Your son probably has a good chance of getting in. Good luck.

Here you can find the info on petitioning:
