I am hoping to avoid being in a bubble of Americans, so I was wondering if anyone knows of good direct enrollment programs. I know Amideast has a program in Al-Akwahayn University in Morocco, though I don't speak French or Arabic. I was looking for something in North Africa or South Asia. Does anyone know of any?

Why not just look for an university that appeals to you and look on their website?

Check out this page…it’s Egypt, but gives you an idea of what you might find in other countries:

[Arabic in Amman Jordan. Learn Arabic at a Arabic Language School in Amman, Jordan.](http://languageschoollinks.com/jordan/arabic_in_amman.html)

I know someone who went to Egypt for a year and had a great time (before things got bonkers there). Jordan also looks to be pretty safe/stable by middle eastern standards these days.

If you go to a language school abroad you will instantly burst the American bubble…because you wont arrive to your destination in one. The only problem is when U.S. universities actually use the language schools to host their study abroad groups. Then you run the risk of falling into the bubble and speaking English all the time - that will really ruin your chances of developing a high level of fluency. Still, language schools are a great bet for language learning. I did the language school thing a few times and it was fantastic - you meet people from all over the world and the language learning element is awesome - it will surprise you.

In any case, check out the schools that are located in the host country - see what and how they teach, and then look for U.S. universities that use those schools to host their study abroad programs (and pay attention to price!
)

Good luck with plans abroad!
