Do the Barrons SAT book, Hot Words, and 400 essential sat words(kaplan) contain all of the words found in Direct Hits. I don't know if I should by it. Help, I am studying for the January test.

I’m studying for the Jan test, too. Pretty nervous since I feel like I just started studying, and I feel like I wasted all my time on CC. Anyways, I recommend DH because it is full of modern examples. I will never forget what recalcitrant, obstinate, or obdurate mean. I also recommend practicing potentiation, that is, repetition by doing something like writing a word on a notecard.

They might, but since you only have a month to prepare it would probably be better to just read DH. After reading both volumes of DH, maybe take a couple BB tests and see if your performance on sentence completion problems is worse than your performance on other sections. If it’s not, just do more practice tests and don’t focus all your energy on vocab.

come on, some more opinions.

There are tons of threads where more experienced people post their opinions on this topic. Have you checked out silverturtle’s guide?

The DH books have words in them that are not in Barron’s 2400 or Hot Words. I have not used Kaplan beacuse the concensus over the last couple of years (see other CCers previous posts) have said they do not perform well on the SAT. I have 2 sons that have used all 3 of these books and am now tutoring and have found that DH is the most efficient and effective way of studying for the vocabulary on the SAT.
