I live with my father who receives a pension from the state as a result of being injured and permanently disabled on the job (he was a police officer). The pension is not subject to federal or state tax. Do I have to enter this on my FAFSA and does it count as regular income? I thought it did, but there was someone at my school's counselor's office today who said that I should leave it out so now i am kind of confused.

You can call the FAFSA help line (1-800-4-FED-AID)on this but the instructions read as follows:

Enter the total amount of any other untaxed income or benefits that your parents received in 2009, such as workers compensation, Black Lung Benefits, untaxed portions of Railroad Retirement Benefits, disability, etc.

Do not include student aid, earned income credit, child tax credit, welfare payments, untaxed Social Security benefits, Supplemental Security Income, Workforce Investment Act educational benefits, on-base military housing or military housing allowance, combat pay, benefits from flexible spending arrangements (for example: cafeteria plans), foreign income exclusion or credit for federal tax on special fuels.

So, unless this is a Social Security Disability payment, I think you would include it as untaxed income.
