Disadvantage for not sending "Strongly Recommended" SAT Subject Tests?

Yale, along with other Ivy League schools strongly recommend sending SAT Subject Test scores;

Yale’s policy is “SAT Subject Tests are recommended but not required. Applicants who do not take SAT Subject Tests will not be disadvantaged in the application process. We will consider your application on the basis of the other testing, and all the other information, that we receive with your application. You may wish to consider whether there are particular areas of academic strength you would like to demonstrate to the Admissions Committee. Subject Tests can be one way to convey that strength.”

I have a 670 US History, 640 Biology, and 630 Math 2. These scores are low and I am not sure if I should send them because Yale says “Applicants who do not take SAT Subject Tests will not be disadvantaged in the application process.”

I have a 31 ACT. Would I be more at a disadvantage if I send my low SAT Subject Tests scores or if I do not send them at all?

Why do you think you are a good admission candidate for Yale? Your ACT is on the low end. Do you have something else? I agree that your subject test scores won’t help you.

I just looked at your thread history. You keep asking the same question about scores for all these elite schools.

I hope you have a safety school.

No chance at Yale, with or without subject tests.

Take what these people say with a grain of salt. The people here sometimes cross the line from realism to cynicism. There is always a chance, you just need to have different areas that stick out. I say send the subject tests. If they don’t help, they will be ignored. Make sure to have a safe school lined up, but don’t give up hope on your reach schools. Everything will work itself out in the end and you will go where you belong

Don’t send your subject scores, They will only hurt your chances. Unless you are exceptionally strong on something or have a super hook, you need to be realistic with your chances of Yale.

The “disadvantage” is that you don’t have good enough scores to bolster your case for admission. Whether or not you send them is pretty immaterial.

600’s will not be ignored, especially when you compare it with the plethora of 700+'s in the Yale applicant pool.
I would suggest that you don’t send them.

I think you have a real dilemma here. What elite schools mean when they say that subject tests are highly recommended is that people who take them and do well on them are much more likely to be admitted than students who don’t send them any subject test scores, for whatever reason. It’s not that they’ll hold it against you, it’s simply that you’ll have a harder time measuring up against students with stellar subject test scores.

So if you really want to apply, you will have to find another way to show them that you’re qualified.

This may help, it’s from Princeton, but Yale should be fairly similar.
SAT SCORES % ACCEPTED
2300-2400 14.5
2100-2290 8.1
1900-2090 5.2
1700-1890 2.1
1500-1690 0.3
Below 1500 0
No SAT Scores 5.9
Your 31 corresponds to a 2060. So I wouldn’t say you have no chance but unless you have something which will stand out in the crowd of accomplished applicants, it’s a pretty long shot. I hope you have a lot of schools on your list which are less selective. I wouldn’t send those subject scores.
