<p>i have a 2200+ (not bragging at all), but i honestly think that at most 3 ppl in my school’s history has reached that mark. i love my classmates, dont get me wrong lol. but would that benefit me?</p>
<p>Um, guys, colleges understand that whether you attend a “prestigious” high school is your parents’ doing, not yours. They aren’t going to penalize you because your parents could only afford an average school district. They get that you don’t have a choice in your high school.</p>
<p>I talked to a Stanford Admissions officer in April and she said she found applicants from large public high schools more impressive than those from small private ones.</p>
<p>As BananaSandwich said, if you’re successful and competitive despite being in a large environment without knowledgeable counselors holding your hand it shows perseverance.</p>
<p>Work hard for that rank! Work hard for those counselor recs! Be a leader in your school and let it show!</p>
<p>Look, I’m not suggesting that you have to be in a prestigious high school to get into a good college; that is absurd. But what I am saying is that if you attend an “average” high school, you generally have to be near the top of your class if you’re going to apply to top schools, whereas if you attend a prestigious high school, your lower class rank isn’t extremely detrimental to your chances.</p>
<p>I wouldn’t say everyone with a 2000+ has a chance at top schools (HYPS) but once you hit the 2100-2200, everyone usually has a chance granted they have the rest of the package also.</p>
