I heard some schools accept both the common application and their own unique application.

Is there a disadvantage of submitting the common app.?
Afterall, you still do have to fill out the supplements, so I don't necessarily think that it shows little interest (i.e. using it as a safety) to colleges.

It is perfectly fine to submit the common application:
[quote]
The Common Application is the recommended form for 276 selective colleges and universities for admission to their undergraduate programs. Many of these institutions use the form exclusively. All give equal consideration to the Common Application and the college's own form.

supplements simply means additional materials right?
thus with exception to those colleges that require you to submit the supplementary materials, you don't have to fill/do them?

After you submit the commonapp, go to the individual college website to print out the supplementary forms and fill them in accordingly. Afterwards, if you have additional materials (essays, artwork, whatever) that may help in evaluating your application, send them in.

I read somewhere that using the commonapp is not good, except for colleges that exclusively uses it.
If the college has its own form, then u should use that.
But hey its not me whoz saying it.............check out this website..
http://www.theivycoach.com...........they say it.......look at their facts and misconception and other advices they have.........I don't trust them fully though.........but it depends from person to person.

i got in using a commonapp too, although the college does have its own app! i did it deliberately in fact, to avoid havin to answer all those extra questions in the school's exclusive app!

Some schools discriminate (sort of) their OWN app, like Duke's, which you have to fill by paper. If you want to apply early, you have to use the Commonapp.

And I think most colleges don't care. But I bet it does look better if you use their own.

Schools have to PAY to be part of the Common App. They wouldn't choose to use it, pay for it, and then discriminate against students who used it. I think any claim that using the Common App is disadvantageous is ridiculous.
