I'm currently a junior looking to apply to top schools next year. I'm leaning towards studying economics/finance in college. For my senior year class schedule, I am deciding between taking an AP Science or taking AP Statistics. I really would like to take stats, as it's 1) easier 2) more useful imo 3) pertains more to what I want to do. AP sciences also don't fit in with my schedule well. What do you guys think?

take AP stat

Thanks! Any other suggestions?

@fireonice take AP stats bro its so easy, i fall asleep in class everyday and have a 97 average in it
also, my AP stats class doesnt get homework

@thegrant haha that’s so nice yeah Stats should definitely be way easier

Have you taken the 3 core sciences already? If so, choose the one that appeals more to you. I agree that statistics would be more useful for your majors. At my school, it is a prerequisite for the business school and for econometrics, a course that combines econ and statistics. Both are useful for the fields you are considering.

I am surprised though, how many people on here say that AP Stats is easy. The consensus on here seems to be it is an easier course, but at our school it was one of the more rigorous ones with almost 2 hours of homework on some nights. But I guess that explained by the differences in schools and why most people thought the AP test to be easy because our teacher prepped us so well.

@fireonice yea yo its a joke class and honestly shouldnt be counted as an AP course (though u may want to ask around ur school, cause this is how it is in my school at least)

@shawnspencer Yeah I’ve taken all 3 sciences. For me, physics was interesting but too hard, chemistry was horrible in general, and bio was annoying/needed to study a lot. Yeah stats seems more useful, but I’m not sure what colleges would rather see. At our school Stats is one of the easier classes, I’m sure at other schools it’s different. With studying though I could probably pull off a 5.

@thegrant same at my school

If you have taken all three sciences already, then this one would effectively be your elective. While certain courses (ex: AP Physics C) are known as the most rigorous of courses, there is no point of taking it if you don’t enjoy it or you won’t benefit from the information you learned. Don’t worry about what colleges are going to think, choose the one that would be the best for you. Given the information you have provided, I think the choice is clear that AP Stats would be a much more beneficial for you and would make scheduling a whole lot easier. So go for it and don’t look back

@shawnspencer Thanks that’s great advice I’ll probably go with AP Stats because I honestly think that’ll be a better use of my time. Yeah it would make scheduling much easier too. Thanks!
