disadvantaged

what if your white and you come from a disadvantaged backround? my teacher wrote something like "he is one of my best students ever. he does so much work and is very intellectually curious and brilliant. it's amazing what he has been able to do considering he's been homeless before. most of your applicants are very wealthy and have had many opportunities but he has tryed very hard to do all of this without those resources.". i have straight a's, most advanced classes available (and online college classes), lots of community service, some sports, good art, and i dont kno my ssat scores yet.. do you think having an economically disadvantaged backround yet doing more than was ever expected of me and doing so much on my own despite my family's lack of any extra money will be a very good asset? almost like a hook?

no kidding on this.If this is true and you are doing well your chances will be improved.Good SSAT will help.I certainly hope you are online in the library or community center.Being impoverished is serious business .Homeless, be able to back it up with facts.

thats impressive persist.
im sure the officials would love it since you have gone through so much and yet still achieving great marks..it tells them a lot about you in many ways. I think your chances won't be affected that much when you apply for FA

where do you want to apply to?

im sort of a dreamer..
andover
exeter
lawrenceville
choate
hotchkiss
st pauls
hill

and others

wy do you think im lieing, francis07?

if i thought you were "lieing" i would have just called you out on it.repeat, real poverty/homelessness is serious business to bring up 1-2 weeks before app deadline.have you finished the apps?FA requiements?

yes i have but im working on the essays

Being able to get excellent grades, high honors classes, and even finding a way to take online computer classes when your family has been through so much is very impressive, persist. They will see that. It probably will help you some.

do you think this would count as a hook for him? i would think so.

I don't know about a hook. Having someone come from such a drastically different background from many of the other students would be good for diversity, but I don't know if it's strong enough to be a hook.
