Hello I am going to be attending UCI as a freshman this September. I have a question regarding financial aid and I want to be advised. SO in April I was informed that I was going to be getting about $6300 in grant and some work study loans, and I thought no further action was needed to be done. And then I had some personal issues going on and before that was taken care of I had to go to a foreign country, and during my stay I had no way of using the internet because roaming would be too expensive. And I came back, and realized I had some late financial documentation ( tax transcript) that was supposed to be turned in by mid-May, which was when I had personal issues. And I sent them asap but it was still too late which was Early July. And today I checked my Award List and noticed that I had no grants available and no work study.
Work Study loans doesn’t matter so much, but $6300 grant is a big thing and without it, the expenses are too much for our family. I do not know what to do I NEED HELP. I have emailed them because I was panicking and planning to call them tomorrow… WILL THAT DO? OR IS THERE SOME OTHER THINGS I SHOULD DO? PLEASE HELP

Call and talk to them and find out what is going on.

Call the school and ask. There is nothing else to,do.

But do understand…schools have deadlines for a reason…and they likely gave you a LOT of sufficient notice on when these other documents were due to them.

If the school wanted a tax transcript, then it sounds like you were selected for verification. If that is the issue, your financial aid won’t be given anyway until the verification is resolved.

Just have to ask…everywhere I’ve been abroad, there were relatively inexpensive Internet cafes that could be used. Maybe next time…check those.

fyi- your work study is not a loan. It is work, i…e you will get a paycheck after you work the hours. It isn’t money you are going to get in August to help you pay your bills.
