Okay, so I recently received my AP scores from last year (5 of them.) I got a 5 on BC Calc (and the AB subscore,) Biology, English Lit/Comp and European History, as well as a 5 on US History from sophomore year. But, lo and behold, I look at my AP Spanish Language score, and it's a 2. I didn't even pass! I was hoping for at least a 4. I have a 4.0 UW GPA, a 34 on the ACT with substantial extracurriculars. Is the 2, coupled with an abysmally low Math II score, going to affect my chances of getting into the Ivies?

Simply don’t report your AP Spanish score. What is your Math Level 2 score?

It was a 670. I got 740 on Bio-E and 750 on English Lit. I thought you had to submit all scores, though?

You don’t submit AP scores at all; they are entirely self-reported. You can share only what you want to.

However, SAT scores and Subject Test scores are submitted. But you may use Score Choice to hide any scores that are unfavorable, though this is a violation of some schools’ policies.

Why don’t you go for a re-score? You really don’t have to submit them either…I know a girl from my school (last year’s valedictorian) who got into Stanford. She had a 2 on the AP Physics B exam. I don’t think she reported it.

The above is not true. Some colleges, including some ivies, ask for all AP scores when applying.

Doesn’t the common app have a place for AP exams and scores?
If you don’t list the exam, won’t the college assume you failed (1)?

I have never heard of this. Please list the schools and source your information.

They could assume that you did poorly, or they could assume that you simply elected not to or were not able to take the test.

Or, if you report an unusually low score, they may simply assume that you didn’t take the test seriously. If you’re rather good at Spanish and just happened to do poorly that day on the AP, I think a good SATII score, if you feel like taking it, will entirely solve the problem.

My source is that I spent 20 years as a colleges counselor, about half of them at schools sending over 30% to ivies.

Your claim was that some Ivy League schools ask for all AP scores. I would like you to link to these requests. Typically, when one asks for a source, he or she is referring to something other than the person who made the original claim.

With over 8000 posts I’m with a little digging you’ll be able to find out which schools ask for them.

^ I checked all of the schools’ Web sites and could not find anything that supports your claim.

I’m with silver on this one. I’ve never heard of such a thing. This is true for SAT scores for some Ivies(that do not allow score choice), but not AP scores. Just take a look at the new common app, there are 8 slots total for SAT subject and AP scores. Let’s say you took 5 SAT subjects, you would only report 3 APs then.

Thanks everyone for your help!

It’s impossible for a school to know if you reported ‘all of your scores’ or not anyway. As each score can be reported by itself and you don’t have to report your entire catalog of scores anyway.
