Disclosing your privilege, and how you're addressing it: OK on an application?

In light of the questions about disclosing Republican Club involvement on college applications, it seems as though a concern expressed was that disclosing Republican affiliation would create an impression of being entitled. I’m not sure about that, but entitlement and privilege are major topics of conversation these days.

On an application, how about disclosing your awareness of your privilege, and how you’re addressing it? Good idea or bad idea?

Privilege often means “white privilege”, but there are other types of “privilege”, such as height privilege, gender privilege and more.

No one should apologize for or explain privilege . If you did, it would sound like this: “All my life, I’ve been blonde. From my earliest childhood, I learned that my blondness opened doors that were closed to my brown-haired brothers and sisters. When, as a newly licensed driver, I was pulled over for speeding, I simply smiled at the officer and he let me go…”"

No, no, no! See how lame this is? On an application essay, you show who you are, what your values are, and how you will contribute to the school. But a self-conscious, apologetic essay on your wealth or status would sound really patronizing. Don’t do it!
