Discount text books?

so is it safe to go ahead and buy books??

i suppose so, I already bought two of mine.

I would wait until the first class day as professors often add books or take them off the booklist, and you cannot know for sure until you receive the initial syllabus.

You are not required to have books during the first week of class–this is a university-wide policy.

oh. haha then maybe we should wait. hopefully the books i’ve already bought stays on there. if not, then I’ll have a fabulous ■■■ entry to submit…

I am gonna start hunting for Textbooks online since I’ve registration for classes done.

Tips for any good cheap textbook sites, besides E-bay and Craiglist …

amazon and half.com are pretty good

How are you able to start book hunting when the book list isn’t available on the co-op yet?

I clicked on my courses I registered for and it took me to another website recommending which is the right book for my course according to UT book store I think.

TMT90: Fiyero’s post (#16) explains how to find the textbook list.

I seriously would not buy them yet guys.

The only ones I would get now are like novels for an english class or a book for a language class. A lot of my teachers listed the textbook on the co-op site and we never used it.

If its like a $60+ textbook I would wait to make sure that you really need it before you buy anything.

is it ok if we wait until after the first wk??

No. You will almost certainly have assignments requiring a textbook very soon after the first week.

Take care of it by the next Monday at the latest.

I’m planning on buying a textbook from the co-op after school starts. After I walk over there and tell them what book(s) I need, do they just find it and give it to me to walk out with minutes later? Or is there some order and waiting period involved? And do they ever run out of textbooks?

You don’t tell them what books you need. You go down into the basement of the co-op and find your books on your own. Everything is like in categories according to like GOV or AMS or whatever the class is. All of the books for your class will be in one spot. There are little signs taped to the shelfs that state the class and lists the books. Basically it’s like going into a library and finding books.

If you order online, then you’d go to a specified place and they will give you your books without you having to look for them.

Also, they do run out of books. My government class ran out this summer for the textbook but I found a cheap e-book online for half the price. You’d have to order it online and pick it up later if they run out. This is why they encourage you to order online (will cost the same if you plan on buying it at the co-op. no shipping if you pick it up) so you will for sure get your book.

Also, it’s chaos at the beginning of the year down there.

And if anyone cares they had started taking away summer books and shelving the books for fall on like July 15thish so if you are taking summer school you have a head start on the others. :D

What would be an estimate for the total cost of books for five classes, assuming they are bought from UT bookstore.

Weightlifting (don’t think requires anything)

[University Co-op - Place Textbook Order](http://www.universitycoop.com/ePOS/this_category=838&store=108&form=shared3/gm/main.html&design=coop3)

Depends on the teacher.

If your class isnt there, do it through course schedule.

I have a total of 20 books (one english class doesnt have any posted so possibly more) for a total of $432.

I’m not buying them from UT lol.

Weightlifting requires a textbook. It’s written by the teacher and was published in 2008. Epic lame.

“Weightlifting requires a textbook”

LOL LOL LOL LOL

I hate those.
I bet you could google everything in that book.

164 pages and it’s like $30 used. Not /that/ bad really.

Just wandering…is international edition same as national? Or similar?
I am trying to get my books online, and some of them are international editions and they very cheap compared to the national ones. So I wasn’t exactly sure.

Thanks for the help! :D
