Im just curious… what discounts do BU students get for Laptops (since a lot of my friends are getting pretty nice discounts from their schools) and also Charlie Cards (which i will really be needing). I tried to search for it, but I haven’t found much info.

I have no idea about laptops, but we get an 11% discount on semester MBTA Passes. Go to the student link, and it will be found under the “Personal” tab. The ones that everyone recommends are the Zone 1A or the LinkPass. They’re virtually the same, except Zone 1A lets you go like 2 commuter rail stations around Boston and another bus line, I think.

I might want to take Bus 47 to get to my brothers place in the future. Which one would be better for me?

Also, when do these expire (are they year long or just semester long)

mbta passes are semester long but i think u get a new pass each month? can’t be sure. i never used one and always used my charlie card because there was no reason for me to shell out that much money when i use the BU shuttle all the time and don’t use the t enough to make it worth it. students in general get a discount at apple for laptops (i think 15%) and there used to be a university computers but they closed it on may 29th due to the recession i think.

the bu shuttle is free, right? and is it good enough to get around campus? I don’t want to spend extra money on the t either…

its free and runs every 15 minutes during busy times and every half hour during non-busy hours

What’s a “Charlie Card”?

On the computers, prices are so great retail, that I’m not sure their discounts are really competitive. We just purchased a new laptop for my D and it was loaded with everything she’ll need for less than a grand.

Charlie Card is a plastic card you add money to. Charlie Ticket is a paper ticket that costs a little more per ride. You tap the card on a reader and insert the ticket into the machine.

The info about the semester pass is right on the BU site if you follow link. You get passes for each month. Passes are good on the bus.

Most kids would do better with a card because they won’t use a pass enough for the cost. I don’t know if BU has a way of handing out cards but T employees are supposed to carry empty ones around.

yea i think u can ask employees in any underground t station, and with the card it’s $1.70 on the subway and i can’t remember the bus ride price (with the ticket it’s $2) and is really easy to add money to.
