My son applied for this and received a letter today saying he was selected as a semifinalist. He was asked to send his transcript next week. For those of you who were past state winners, were you asked to do this? I'm not sure if this is just a preliminary step that everyone goes through. Don't want him to get his hopes up.

Hello there. I too applied for this scholarship. I never have gotten any letter from them so far...perhaps I'm not a semifinalist :(. But I did include by high school application with my packet. Hmm...has your son recieved any word on whether he won or not yet? I thought they were suppose to reply in April....but I am yet to recieve any word! Has he? If so, when? Thanks!

Haven't heard anything so maybe only winners receive a letter...

Well a friend of mine who goes to my school said he got a rejection letter last year. So maybe there just a bit slow this year? Especially if either of us haven't gotten anything yet. Plus they changed a lot of the rules this year; so it may take them some time to adjust. But I wonder how we could get in touch with them?!

I was wondering what changes they've made since last year?

I received the award last year. I dont remember having to send a transcript after i was notified i was a state winner. I think i sent it in when i sent the application in.

I dont even think there was a "semifinalist" stage. The first response i got was that I was a state winner = $2,500

Did you encounter a "roadblock" Laffytaffy? I don't want to waste my time applying when I'm a junior if I have no chance of winning.

The directions (for this yr) said not to send transcript (of grades) with application - that they would be requested IF you were selected as a semifinalist. Also said that being a semifinalist does not mean you are a state winner.

So, I'm assuming my son made it to the semifinalist stage but was not selected as a state winner since he hasn't heard anything...

"roadblock"? im not sure what you mean.

All I can say is that I didnt really have anything substantial or remarkable that had happened to me to make a compelling essay out of. I used simple leadership positions and my impact on them. I also think it matters what state you come from. My state of Louisiana probably didnt have that many people who applied.

On the website, it says you should have faced a "roadblock or challenge". I guess it just matters if you're a good applicant then.

My son got his letter today. Won state scholarship ($2500). GujuGeek, good luck. Hope you hear good news too.

I think that is apart of the whole selection process. They need your transcript, so if they request it, it's best to give it to them. Don't worry so much about privacy, it's just grades, and you are competing for a great scholarship.

i won $2500 state last year and i was wondering how selective this scholarship is? sorry i can't help with the transcript question
