Did anyone attend this last year? If so, would they characterize the people accepted as the less privelaged minority students? Are chances of acceptance increased if accepted into the program?

The Discover Middlebury program is offered to (1) African American, Latino, Asian American, and American Indian students; (2) students (regardless of ethnicity) from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, and (3) students who are first in their families to pursue a four-year college education. Only students recommended by their guidance counselor are invited to participate.

I dont think the last part is true....

Although outdated by a few years, here's a summary of multicultural programs at select colleges: http://www.wayland.k12.ma.us/high_school/guidance_dept/colimp_min03.htm

i attended last year, and i loved it! my guidance counselor probably recommended me, but that was after i got the forms. not everyone there was a member of the less privileged minority, but everyone was under "minority status" or financially less able. there aren't published statistics, but i feel that it does help with admissions. the people that run the program are great, i'm so excited to go back and see them. if you have any other questions let me know.

thats so cool gonzo. How many students were there? Was the admissions process difficult?

I am a minority...but i dont really know if I count as URM...(Iranian)

hmm i'm not sure how many kids were there. maybe 50? there could have been more than one session, though i'm not sure.
there was an application process and i know that some people didn't get in. i'm sorry that i don't remember more.
i actually don't think Iranian counts as a URM for some reason. you should really email your admissions counselor at Midd to find out what Midd considers a URM for the Discover Middlebury program.

They counted asian as a URM and well...Iran is in Asia lol.
