Discovery Weekend 2011

Anyone planning to go? Sounds pretty awesome!

Also, to those who have attended in previous years, was it worth it? I'm trying to convince my parents to let me go even though it's at the end of the first grading period of my school year.

Didn’t the deadline to register already pass?

According to the email I got today, registration closes on August 31st.

This is by invitation only, correct? I sent in my pre-app data sheet about 2 weeks ago and registered for Pathway; am I going to get an invite, or is it too late?

Yes it’s invitation only, and invitations are completely unrelated to the pre-app data sheet. I don’t know when they sent out invites; if deadline to register is in a couple weeks I assume they’ve been sent already but I really don’t know.

My D received an invitation and can’t wait to go. Everyone she has come in contact with via phone at WASHU couldn’t be nicer. We are very impressed with the level of organization and personal approach of the undergraduate admissions department. Best of luck to you!

E o Tiger,

My son went last year and it was probably the deciding factor in his attending WASHU. The visit gave him first hand experience about everything he had been reading about WASHU. If you are seriously considering WASHU, then this visit would be invaluable. If your parents have any questions, have them PM me.

Ok. I thought the deadline had passed. That means I still have a chance to go! I got the invite sometime at the beginning of this month I think.

I already visited WashU last Spring. Do you still think I should go? Does Admissions factor attending DW into acceptance decision?

@onecot59

If you haven’t done an interview/met with a financial aid officer yet, you will have the opportunity at DW 2011. Interviews as well as attending shows interest, which is considered in admissions decisions.

I had a student interview when I visited in April. Also met with Dept Head for the major I am interested in. Not looking for financial aid.

Decided not to go - would have missed two days of school.

How can you show more interest than applying ED?

I am pretty sure ED is plenty interest enough, I mean if you get in YOU ARE GOING. They don’t have to worry about ED yield (of course there are a few rare circumstances…). Or do you mean you aren’t applying ED but still want to express interest, in addition to the interview and campus visit?

Got my itinerary today…

I am applying ED to Wash U.

I’m so excited to go!!! it seems that no one else from my school is going though. oh well, i hope everyone else is just as awkwardly friendly as i will be :)

For what it is worth, my son dd not attend Discovery Weekend, planned his campus visit during Discovery Weekend (he visited Northwestern during the same trip so the weekend did not work for him), did not interview until he returned home, applied ED and was accepted.

Kudasai, I’ll be pretty awkwardly friendly too! dont worry. I’m really excited i think it will be a lot of fun.

One week!!!

I’m going too!! I’m very excited, and the kid I’m roomin with just emailed me yesterday!! And I’ll be awkwardly friendly as well!! :D

^what time are you guys planning to meet up with your OWLs?
