This thread got weird fast (chill fl, geez).

Now I’m confused about weekends. Is diversity weekend the same as multicultural weekend? (Ie the one for admitted students?)

Now I’m confused about weekends. Is diversity weekend the same as multicultural weekend? (Ie the one for admitted students?)

Got my invite to discovery weekend in today. Called and asked for travel assistance and got it. They are paying for my plane ticket. To the person who asked what the qualifications were, I am Hispanic and did well on my PSAT. But I don’t see what would stop someone from going to the discovery weekend website and signing themselves up without an invitation. Www.discoveryweekend.wustl.edu

I don’t think there is anything stopping someone from signing up themselves, or at least getting themselves on the list. But since there is limited space (students are hosted by current students so there are only so many hosts) they need to control the situation.

Good job on getting assistance, and have a great time! WUSTL is a really great school and a beautiful campus. Just out of curiosity, where are you from?

I’m from ky, louisville

Desu, hope you have a great time, Washu is very generous. They have been to me so I try to give what I can. I hosted a prospective last year.

Marc, I think diversity and multicultural are one and the same.

After reading this thread and several others that talk about WUSTL scholarships and Discovery Weekend, it appears that quite a few kids that were invited to Discovery Weekend for an all expense paid trip posted that they applied and were awarded one of the full tuition or half tuition merit scholarships. Do you think you have less of a chance to receive one of these merit scholarships (especially Ervin/Rodriquez) if you were not one of the ones invited for this all expense paid weekend? I am assuming that if you were invited to attend the weekend your chances must be quite a bit greater. I read on a thread that there were about 300 kids there for Discovery Weekend (invited and those who signed up on their own). Anyone know what percentage of those kids were invited with all expense paid or partial paid? I am just wondering if someone who didn’t attend Discovery Weekend has much of a chance of getting one of those scholarships.

How can you get invited free to Discovery Weekend? When would you even find out such a thing? Do you have to have applied ED?

@fretfulmother Apparently they find you. Discovery weekend is Sept 18-20, so long before applications ED or otherwise are due. You can however go here: https://uavisitscheduler.wustl.edu/pages/VisitDuration.aspx and schedule the weekend on your own while space remains but it does not include transportation

So it seems there are 3 ways to attend:

Also, it seems that some (all?) that attend with the airfare invitation will be wooed as merit scholarship prospects.

This may be a dumb question - but I notice it ends on Saturday. If a kid is Jewish, are there arrangements that can be made to go to services/etc. at the Hillel, get kosher food, etc.?

@fretfulmother You would have to ask the school. Those attending Discovery Weekend get a prepaid card to use to purchase meals on campus and there is a kosher dining area so I’m sure your child can find kosher food. I believe they have freedom as to where they want to eat. And some freedom as to how they spend some of their time so I figure there is time to attend services.

@search2014 - thanks!!

Hello, I was invited to the discovery weekend and the college offered to pay for my airfare and meals and stuff. I think what happened for me was one day I received a letter from the college and I filled out like sat scores and EC and stuff of that nature. This was in early late June. I get a letter around late July with all an all expense paid invitation. I did not know that the the initial letter might lead to this but I guess this is why you read college letters sometimes =)

@mubaracus - thank you for the follow-up info! Was this now, i.e. 2014?
