Discovery Weekend

Did anyone else receive an invitation to Discovery weekend and is anyone going?

I received an invitation and I'm dying to go, but I'm from Cali and the airfare is absolutely outrageous... is there any way it can get cheaper... and what do they have @ Discovery weekend, exactly?

yeah i got one too and im pretty excited to go

does anyone know how they choose people to send invites? it cant be for URMs since im asian, male, and not first generation.

monica, Discovery Weekend is all expenses paid. So, airfare shouldn't be an issue at all. I believe it is for minorities in general, not necessarily urms.

Multicultural Weekend is for minorities. Discovery Weekend is open to everyone, some people go all expenses paid, others just for invitation, room and meals paid but no transportation. About 400 prospects attend every year.

I received a message today, and I sent an email (and got a reply in less than 5 minutes) to double check if airfare would be included. I was told it was.

I'll probably be going because with everything paid, there's no reason not to go! Hopefully I'm booked out of my home airport to avoid traveling to another city...

Have yall already RSVPd?

yeah I RSVPd and I'm good to go! I got the all-expense paid trip as well.

I'm going too! I was surprised by how fast it was to register and get everything taken care of... after RSVPing they emailed me my flight info the next day.

I want to go so badly,
but my trip to Visit scripps is on the 21st, not too sure my parents will be keen on me missing so much school.

But I would pick WashU over Scripps anyways, so hopefully I will be at the discovery weekend with you all!

Hey! I RSVP'd recently too, all expenses paid (and my parents aren't coming ;).) I'm really excited! Looking forward to meeting you guys.

Just got my flight confirmation!

I was wondering if any of you are leaving ridiculously early on Saturday morning? My flight leaves at 6 in the morning! (which I guess isn't so early, but I wanted to do something Friday night).

Regardless, I'm so excited! This will be my first out of state college visit. Even though my dad won't be with me (I actually like how he helps me with this whole process) I'm ready to havea blast!

yeah my first college visit on my own as well! i can't wait to meet everyone, hopefully i'll see you guys :]

My son got an invitation, but it didn't say anything about being free or paid airfair. For those who are getting their airfair paid, was this clear from the letter.

UHSDEBATER: You said you sent an email to ask about airfare. Was there something in your letter that indicated that they might be paying for this?

When my dad called, they said that not everyone gets airfare paid for.

I think they target URMs for paid airfare, though people who are not URMs are still able to go. The only reason I believe this is because I got two invitations, one just from WashU. And another one from the Association of Black Students and the Black Alumni Council (this is the one that states they will pay for my travel).

People are leaving on Saturday? My flight is on thursday the 18th....

Oh no, I mean my flight home is on Saturday.
I will be at WashU thursday morning :]

lets hope for the same group!

my name is Andres if any of you care :]

They split people up into groups?
I guess that makes sense, I heard over 300 students went last year.

Wouldn't it be funny if all of us from CC were in the same group and we didn't even know it?!

yeah i think its 5-6 groups?
