Hey guys,
I'm at a private university and looking to transfer, but at the end of last semester I was at a party that got broken up and I got cited for underage drinking. I initially shrugged off the charge because a lot of kids get one or two while at my school, but now that I've decided to transfer I'm pretty worried that it'll negatively affect my college rec. I was assured by the students in charge of discipline that it only goes on my internal transcript and I should be fine, but I'm not too convinced. So, will my dean's rec make note of the incident even though it only resulted in a warning and not probation/suspension/etc.?
Thanks.

I'm also interested in the answer to this question. I belive though that it is on your internal transcript and that it goes away within a year at most schools. Also the only school that I've seen that has asked this was emory, most schools only ask if an academic, conduct, etc... has led to probabtion, suspension, expulsion - as long as that hasn't happened to you, you should be fine.

The dean will most likely talk about the incident in the letter of recommendation if it is in your internal transcripts. Deans are able to see your permanent record in the school and it is their duty to talk about the severity of the incident.

donjuan - Do you have any real experience with this or are you just saying what you think? I have the same question as the original poster and am interested in what you have to say. thanks

I know this because i speak with my dean all the time; he reports if the student has had any incidents in the school, usually under the following questions of the common app:

"Has the applicant ever been found responsible for a disciplinary violation at your school, whether related to academic misconduct or behavioral misconduct, that resulted in the applicant’s probation, suspension, removal, dismissal, or expulsion from your institution?"

"To your knowledge, has the applicant ever been convicted of a misdemeanor, felony, or other crime?"

However, my record is clean so i dont have the "experience." It is really up to the dean of your school; they will most likely report it if it fits the bill.

It's certainly an iffy situation. I'm really hoping that because I wasn't put on probation for it, the dean wont report it. I'm assuming that the misdemeanor/felony question applies to crimes outside of school grounds? I suppose it really is up to him.

the question that you just mentioned above involved the phrase "found responsible"
does it still have to be mentioned even if i was NOT found responsible?
i was in the room during an incident, met with the director of my dorm and went through that ordeal. after talking to all the parties involved she contacted me and told me i would be written as "not responsible" in the incident. (i was in the presence of tobacco). she also told me that at my school, the record stays within housing and i have to consent for housing to give out that information and that if i applied to transfer it wouldn't be available for anyone to see. i don't know if that's true...
