Applying to a university with a $40 application fee, but the Common Application says there is no fee. How do I know if that university will consider my application if the Common Application won't allow me to pay the fee?

Some colleges waive the application fee when you apply on-line. Read the school’s website carefully. If you don’t find the answer, ask the College’s Admissions Rep that covers your area.

My son had gotten a few letters from schools he visited and sent test scores to that his fee would be waived if he applied via the CA or the schools own online application. I wondered how the CA waiver thing worked, but it worked as you describe: When he want to pay, he couldn’t. He submitted those applications, and the payment then shows up as COMPLETE, in green, on the summary sheet for those colleges.

So, after your kid has submitted the application, click on that college again in the Common App. If COMPLETE shows up, you’re all set. There’s your proof.

Pretty great!

Thanks - I checked again and apparently on-line applications are free! (at this particular university). The Common App indicates payment is complete as well.
