This is the second essay I have to right for the public school applications in Texas via applytexas. I'll be using this app for University of Texas-Austin, as well as some of its sister schools

Topic B) Choose an issue of importance to youthe issue could be personal, school related, local, political, or international in scopeand write an essay in which you explain the significance of that issue to yourself, your family, your community, or your generation.

I'm having trouble thinking of something that I really relate to, that is in itself unique. Now I know it seems a bit counterproductive to ask for some ideas on something that should be relating to me, but I just need ideas to get my mind going

Think hard about something that either ticks you off or makes you tick. What really gets you going? It could be something silly, serious, world related or very personal. It really doesn't matter as long as you are writing it because its important to YOU. Don't do something that you think the Admissions Officer wants like AIDS, Drugs, Poverty, etc unless you really do feel super passionate about it. The point is they want to know you better, they know plenty on those other subjects. Think about yourself and what makes you mad/happy/nervous and then you will get an idea. Don't worry about uniqueness, if it really does relate to you as a person, it will be unique, unlike the 10000 applicants writing about AIDS, Drugs and Poverty.

I'm having trouble with essay B too, and the deadlines are really close :/

I've come up with an idea or two but I don't know what to choose. I was thinking of writing about the way school counselors no longer counsel, which not only really ticks me off but has also attributed to the depression and suicide attempt of a friend. But I'm afraid of going to heavy with it. I also considered discussing the hostile takeover of my Orchestra by the band, but I'm worried that's not heavy enough.

What do I do?!

Also, the scholarship deadline for UT-A is Dec. 1, but I haven't sent a transcript and don't see how I could get one to Austin before Monday, with the holiday and all. Am I screwed?

I haven't sent in my app either. I know the scholarship deadline is Monday, but I think if you just send it in online you should be fine with mailing/faxing your transcript Monday or Tuesday. Thats what I'm doing at least. Plus, its not like UTA gives out to many scholarships, unless your close to godly :)

If I were you I wouldn't call out counselors in general. Because although the counselors at your school may be sub-par, it doesn't mean all high school counselors suck. You could address the issue of depression or suicide, whatever happened with your friend. They like the essays to be personal. Be careful not to talk about your friend to much and tie it back to yourself.
