I wanted to hear from the CC community about Carnegie Mellon. Current students, former students, or their parents are especially encouraged to comment.

I intend on applying to the Mellon College of Science to major in physics.

Could you guys tell me things like:
- What is the style of learning at CMU? What are classes like?
- How would you describe the student community?
- What is the curriculum like?
- Are there any unique research opportunities? Or physics labs and areas? How does CMU treat its undergraduate research department?
etc.

I'd just like to understand what attending this school is like. And if you know any physics or MCS specific facts, those are welcome, too.
