<p>Is it risky to discuss my studies in depth or recall items of interest that might need an elaborate explanation for someone not in the field? </p>
<p>Applying to engineering schools for transfer I don't know who to write to. Are people from the engineering department going to be reading my essay in deciding if I get in or is it a general board? </p>
<p>I'm assuming a general board and unsure of what to assume they might know and assuming they know nothing, which is likely the safest, how in depth must I go to explain something the reader might be unfamiliar with?</p>
