As applicants should know, Columbia has both “Why Columbia” and “Why major” prompts in the writing supplement. In both essays, I discussed my intention to study biology; I talked about my past experiences and goals in the “why major” essay, and specific biology resources at Columbia in my “why Columbia” one. I only briefly mentioned the Core Curriculum and NYC since I figure readers will see enough of that. Is writing about biology in both essays going to hurt me? (My Common App and extracurricular essays talk about very different things, so hopefully that still shows I’m multi-dimensional) Thanks!
It will not hurt you. All of my essays were on the same topic, including common app
Thanks for the response!
Every single one of my essays involved my major, except my extracurricular essay. I wouldn’t worry. If anything, it should show your passion about a single subject and the multiple dimensions to that passion. I’m sure you’ll be fine as long as they’re well written essays
