Hey everyone.

I'm registering for courses and am required to take discussion courses once a week along with other classes (ex. Chem Lecture on M-W-F, and then Chem Discussion on a day of my choice).

Pretty sure I have an understanding of what the discussion course is, but just looking for the insight of a college student on what the best/most useful time to take the discussion course is. Right before a lecture, right after a lecture, on an off day? I can see advantages to any of em, so just looking for opinions!

Thanks.

Im assuming that Discussion is another name for Recitation in which case I would recommend Thursday or Friday because typically recitations involve a quiz component, thus it gives you time to prepare rather than earlier in the week. Also you will have a better chance to think more about your lectures during the week (as with your classmates) so the questions that will be asked will be more engaging rather than little things to clear up confusions.

At my school they are also called discussions and there is rarely any quiz component. I don’t think it matters a whole lot, personally. If I had a lecture the same day as a discussion I would often get burned out on the material, so I might not schedule mine on the same day, so I’d do Tuesday or Thursday for your discussion. Plus that way you have time to study the material if you want to see if you have questions (I often think after class that I understand what is going on only to realize when studying that I’m not exactly sure).
