A little early, but I wanted to see who would answer this :)! What other schools are y’all applying for?
Surprised this is already up this early, but I was going to apply to H2022. Also probably all the other ivies, plus standford and MIT. Then of course my in state safeties, like USC (south carolina), clemson, wintrop, etc.
@Tobster18 Do you think you’re competitive? Right now, I’m not sure whether or not Harvard SCEA or Yale is better than just applying EA to a bunch of schools!
I think I’m somewhat competitive but you never know till you try. I feel like if you think you are “super” qualified for any Ivy League school then its better to apply EA than RD.
My initial reaction to this thread was to upbraid both of you for talking about applying to Harvard, from which those of us who will have been admitted will be graduating from in the SPRING of 2022, this group having received their acceptance letters in either the SPRING of 2018 or the FALL of 2017, despite it being, at the moment, NOVEMBER of 2016!
However, I checked my vexation because, within thirty seconds of angry typing, I realized I would be admonishing two of my peers who are thinking exactly what I am thinking, the only difference being that they chose to write it down. . . on the Internet.
I am applying Harvard, along with the United States Naval Academy (my first choice), Dartmouth, Columbia, Princeton, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Boston College, the United States Coast Guard Academy, the United States Military Academy, Tulane University, and Fordham University. I will be the first to tell you that it is my sincere belief that I have about a 0.0666666667% chance of being admitted into most of these institutions, and yet, here I am. I hope you find my lack of confidence and critically low self-esteem invigorating and inspiring.
P.S.
If Hell does, in fact, freeze over and I am admitted to Harvard, I will fully and completely deny ever being involved with this thread this early.
“’***Discussion for Harvard 2022 Applicants’? C’mon, let’s be real; I only started thinking about applying after Yale turned me down.”
Hey there! Is anyone here applying SCEA? I made a thread for it without knowing this one existed whoops
I am!!
Where are you from, and what do you think is your intended major?? @Tobster18
@yayaylearner South Carolina, probably neurobiology. I got an internship at the NIH to do research with neurodegenheration so I am excited.
*neurodegeneration
Nice!! @Tobster18 btw do you think it’ll be a good idea to move SCEA discussions to my thread? Or just keep everything here?
Where are you going to apply to for Regular Decision? @Tobster18
I’m applying EA next year!
I’m applying to Harvard EA next year! Can’t wait for the process to be over so I know where I’m going to school.
I think we should split the SCEA and the Regular Decision applicants into two different threads. If you guys wanna discuss SCEA, check this thread out!
I’m from India, I’ll be applying to top schools and some safeties those who accept Jan SAT.
Right now, my common app is:
- Harvard EA
- The Ohio State University EA
- University of Central Florida EA
- Yale RD
- Princeton RD
- Columbia RD
- Duke RD
Coalition is:
- Florida State University EA
- University of Florida EA
Before anyone says it, yes it will be very expensive. Gonna get an $1000 scholarship to pay for the admission (score reports, transcripts, all that good stuff)
Then may I suggest you also apply to a school where your chances are SIGNIFICANTLY greater than Harvard: https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2015/01/07/u-illinois-growth-number-chinese-students-has-been-dramatic
That contracts sharply with an Indian student’s chances at Harvard. From the pull down menus, select STUDENTS, HARVARD COLLEGE (the undergraduate school) and INDIA:

Hey guys, I’m applying next year EA most likely and am just getting everything ready like requesting letter of recs from my teachers. I have two questions, first can I submit 3 letters instead of two, or should I stick to two? Also second, one of my teachers wants me to fill out an application of a letter and it asks where she should send it, does anyone know? Thank you!
All colleges – not just Harvard – appreciate and respect student’s that can follow directions. For Harvard, that means two (2) teacher recommendations (not 3 or 4 or 5 or 12).
The exception is if you have worked as a research assistant, then you should have your mentor upload a 3rd LoR. Or, if you have an afterschool/weekend job, then your boss should write a 3rd LoR that addresses your maturity and ability to relate to the public.
FWIW: You should have a conversation with your teachers and they should follow the Common Application directions and not send, but upload their LoR after you have invited them via their email address.
