Discussions vs Lectures

Now, I am aware this may be a dumb question:

Ya know how each class has a lecture and a discussion period rite? (or with sciences, one block for lectures, 1 for labs, and 1 for discussions).

Excatly how do lectures and discussions differ? I will be a freshman this year at college park, but this has been kinda bugging me, lol.

Lectures have every student in the class with the professor teaching while discussions have 10-20 students with the TA with supplement teaching and work on papers and stuff.

You'll find out in due time.

you forgot to add that 90% of the time the TA doesnt speak english either...

i've got no clue because both environments don't sound very conducive to learning and i've never taken part in either.. but good luck. :)
