disenrolling from rotc

My son received a letter TODAY saying he must sign papers to disenroll from ROTC at a major university. He had a scholarship for one year. They are indicating in the papers that he could be liable for the tuition paid for that year or called into active duty. They also say WP must be told that he is disenrolling from ROTC.

We are waiting for a call back from his tack. What do we do now? Is he is some kind of jeopardy? Yikes!

mombo1: Did your son not tell the university and the ROTC powers that be that he had accepted an appointment to WP?

mombo1:
PS. I hope R -day and the first call home went well. I'm sure the paperwork will be resolved. Just one more stress to deal with.... hang in there.

Yes--my son has withdrawn from the university. ROTC knew back in March that he accepted his WP apointment.

Thanks for your kind words.

I'm not sure what kind of letter your son received but like USMA any ROTC scholarship is not binding until they enroll in the advanced ROTC classes (Jr. year). Likewise, they have until they enter their first class as a 2nd Class Cadet (Jr. year) to drop out of USMA without obligation. It should work itself out. Wishing the best for your New Cadet.

Hi Mombo1: If I remember correctly your son had completed 2 years of ROTC. I hope the paperwork has all worked out, and that all is well.

One year was voluntary--non-scholarship. He hadn't applied for a scholarship--just applied to West Point. We are waiting to get a call-back from his Tac so we can find out how to send the paperwork to him. We've made two calls starting Monday, but so far, no reply.

mombo,

Lots of people are on vacation this week.

I guess patience is the name of the game - it sounds like it will be OK though.
