i'm looking to transfer from rutgers uni to a school with a good communications/tv writing program (syracuse, USC, northwestern) or just... well, an awesome school that would be a super reach (harvard, columbia/barnard - heh, right). got 1140 on the SATs - 690 verbal, 450 math. yeah, i know. 740 SAT II verbal, which is the only one i took. 4s and 5s on my APs. tough classes (honors, AP), 3.3 high school GPA with a good explanation, lots of extracurrics and i can write good essays. i'm looking to transfer after freshman year... and since i don't plan on having a great social life, hopefully i'll have a 3.8 - 4.0 GPA when i apply for transfer.
i applied to Columbia - deferred then rejected. Tisch at NYU for creative writing - rejected. i called up and they said they were very impressed by my writing but the 450 kept me out and my GPA didn't exactly help, which was not a surprise.
i was in the page program in washington DC for the senate, and sen. corzine could write me a personalized rec. also i was a semi-finalist for pres. scholars in the arts for writing. finally (and weirdest of all) i have an adult fiction book picked up by a reputable pub. house. who would have thought? (it's kinda a bret easton ellis slash nick mcdonell deal and should be out by the time i start my transfer applications). it's still extremely strange to me, but i can't say i'm averse to these recent events. =) the book is also touted as semi-autobiographical... which explains pretty much why my grades were bad (abuse). my longterm goal is to write tv sketch ensemble comedy in LA or NYC... though i wouldn't sneer at being a staff writer at a drama or anything. beggars can't be choosers.
i'm seriously digressing. the point: with the new SAT's essay section, i thought maybe a retest would be in order, on the other hand, i heard there was a trig section. gross. so some advice? and it wouldn't hurt to give me some percentages on the school chances, if it isn't too much trouble. don't worry, i always expect the worst. really, really sorry for the long post.

bummmmmmmp!

You should probably retake the new SAT. Try at least some practice tests and check how your score would be first and if it turns out that the math section is giving you problem. Check out one of those math workbooks from the library and work on your stuff. Don't worry so much about the SAT though, even if you get a great score the application process depends on a whole lot of other things.

But from what I've read you'll be okay.
