BUT- I want to know what you hate/cant stand about NYU!

ive been to so many information sessions where all they do is boast of how great of a school it is (And im SURE it is) but I want to know the negatives too before I make any choices!

scrapnel-was there a criterion set, that only NYU students ought to reply to this thread? i didnt think so. i know many, many undergrads who go/have gone. if all of them said basically the same thing about the school--that you're essentially just a number to them--wouldn't you be inclined to believe it?

thisSHH-i mean that, by and large, as a freshman you aren't going to have any kind of intimate feel with your professors/administration/etc. obviously this is not an absolute argument, i am speaking of the majority. your situation and experiences will invariably differ

lol suubie, do you mean more than? I think that Gallatin definitely reduces the *classic negative aspects of NYU. I'll probably be meeting you at orientation!

well.. if you don't like people who smoke, you'll have a pretty uncomfortable time at NYU because a lot of NYU kids smoke and they do it right outside all the buildings.. so. yeah. super annoying.

Second Chocolateisgood~ I definitely noticed that freshman year, since everyone was all "oh, we're 18 and away from our parents, look at us be cool". I feel like it drops off after that :D

Actually, you have a class of 500 at Stern, which is pretty decent, I'd say :P What I dislike... math classes that DO NOT fit into any other school's schedule and the bizarre housing system (but it'll be better for you guys because they'll probably iron some of the kinks out) and Writing the Essay, of course.

i love nyu, so its tough to complain too much about it. one thing i can't stand is the graduate student TA union, which went on strike last semester in an effort to cripple the school. the level of support they receive from undergrads was unbelievable, as i personally believe they should have been fired and/or had their generous financial aid packages revoked. so, as you can tell, i'm a pretty conservative guy. i like nyu because i can find others like me, despite the clear liberal majority. and despite our differences, i find that most people at this school tend to get along quite well. thats why i love it

it might not be hard for YOU to find dislikes...im sure others could readily say otherwise (like the parentals, lol). I disliked it when i was walking along La Guardia and i stepped in some homeless guy's vomit.
