Dismal math score--should I retake?

Hello...
I took the SAT for the first time in June of 2005 (I am currently a senior, and I believe I am applying to the University of Rochester ED). Anyway, my scores are as follows:

CR: 800
W: 740
...
M: 580

First, I expected to do better on the Writing portion. Additionally, after a bit of review and regaining my math confidence, I feel as though the score I received on the Math portion is not representative of my actual mathematical ability. Anyway, do you think I should retake in November before submitting my ED app?

I'd say definitely.

You could always try your luck with a super math SAT II to patch it up but rather than going through the trouble of having to explain it all, I'd just retake. Doesn't U of Rochester take the highest section scores from all your retakes?

I agree, I would just retake it. I believe most colleges take highest combo score anyway.

Thanks.

Yes, Rochester does consider the highest section scores from each attempt, so if I could manage an 800 W and 620+ M, I'd be set.
