Ive been dismissed from Davis recently, and was wondering is it possible for me to attend a community college for a 2-3 years start over and transfer to a different UC? and if i do where and how can i get started? any help would be greatly appreciated.

What does the paperwork regarding your dismissal say? Is it specific to UCD, or is it UC in general? Is there any path back to UCD listed, or is it final?

Some UCs have unit limits on the number of units a transfer student can have if they have any units from four year schools (so if you had any grades other than F or NP, that could be an issue).

Otherwise, you may want to look in the UC Transfers forum, and look up [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) to figure out what courses you need to take to transfer to your major in each UC or CSU.

@silicon
i had a “contract” with my counselor specific to davis. im meeting with her again next week so ill ask?
@ucb
i know you need to be in good standing with davis (in my case) to try to transfer,but is it possible to attend a cc and transfer out to sd, la? well i went to davis for two years, then messed up and got dismissed

No, you must be in good standing to transfer to another UC. If you want to attend a UC you would have to go back to UCD and get into good standing.

thanks for help everyone

“No, you must be in good standing to transfer to another UC. If you want to attend a UC you would have to go back to UCD and get into good standing”

This is generally the case, but it would be very expensive to go back to UCD just to get back into good standing , if a UC wont take you consider a CSU . After a few years at CC you might be able to file an appeal or something

so how about a private school such as usc? would my classes and gpa or anything from davis prevent me from going to a cc and applying there? would i need to be in good standing with davis to get into usc?

If your dismissed from any school USC is officially out of your range . What you need to do is go to a CC for a while, and when you have 60 CC units try to transfer to a CSU . Your going to have to call and speak with an admissions adviser at whatever CSU and ask them to let you in even though you were dismissed . This is what I would do at this point, the problem is your UCD GPA will drag you down even if you do well at a CC…

I don’t mean to be harsh , but you have to look at schools that will admit you with less than a 3.0 AND ask for an exception to the good standing at all previous schools rule . This is going to be a bit rough, and your going to have to set your expectations a bit lower .

Good luck

I don’t think being dismissed from UCD will affect CSU admissions, except your GPA of course.

Thisislife what’s your basis for saying USC is out of the picture? If someone shows significant GPA improvement there’s no reason to think they don’t have a shot.

Kind of hard to know without OP’s # of units and overall GPA.

“Thisislife what’s your basis for saying USC is out of the picture? If someone shows significant GPA improvement there’s no reason to think they don’t have a shot.”
USC’s a top tier school, if you dismissed your effective GPA is PROBABLY below a 2.0 .
While I know this generation has been taught to shoot for the stars and all that , you have to be realistic .

Lets assume the OP does great at a CC , and gets something like 3.5 for 2 years , then lets assume their GPA at UCD was 1.7.

3.5 x .66( 2 years of CC) = 2.31
1.7 x .33(one year of UCD) = .561
That’s an overall GPA of 2.87, which gets you into a mid-range CSU . Plus you have to explain why exactly you got dismissed, why you where on academic probation first, ect . Private schools are far more reluctant to take on students with a rough track record like this , since if you drop out they lose money . You also have to keep in mind the OP is competing with kids with overall 3.5’s with no such negative record .

An excellent idea. Adcoms are not simply automatons that go by a single number such as GPA. At USC they will see your rising performance in a CC and figure that while you had a rough start, your more recent performance shows you turned things around. That assumes, of course, that you do significantly better at the CC…

As starters, figure out what went wrong and how you are going to fix it. As one wag said, a definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.
