The myth is that UCLA and Berkeley works together in the admissions process to admit certain students only to one and not the other. Of course, this would mean each UC would have to be aware of the other UCs an applicant applied to; if each UC could not make that determination then the conspiracy idea must be false. Here is an email:

Me-"Does UCLA for instance look at what other UCs an applicant has applied to?"

UCLA transfer advisor-"No, now go find something else to worry about."

But just in case an adcom looks at this website--for the record, I vastly prefer Berkeley!

Say which one you prefer and give your reasons...

"Me-'Does UCLA for instance look at what other UCs an applicant has applied to?'

UCLA transfer advisor-'No, now go find something else to worry about.'"

Well, if that's true then my favorite is: Both! I'd apply to UCB and UCLA since you never know what will happen w/ admissions. If I had to pick (which I don't!...yet), I'd say UCB because I love it's location (specific part of Berkeley) and I really like the campus. But UCLA would be amazing too; Westwood Hills, also a great campus; I don't think anyone could go wrong when deciding between UCB and UCLA.
