Displaced by Hurricane Katrina... on to my third High School. Help.

I moved from St. Louis to New Orleans a year ago as a rising sophmore and now I am a junior who has been kicked out of my school in New Orleans and am now attending boarding school. Basically, my third high school.

My schedule is completely ruined, my courses, which have been royally screwed up by the initial switching of schools, is in a state of shambles.

Not to mention this boarding school takes university style classes and holds some kind of grudge against the college board, thinking they are above AP tests and whatnot.

Basically, I'm asking you guys if it's worth it to go back to my old school in St. Louis right now. I lost all my club officer places, all the prestige I gained last year (which, not to sound forward or like I'm bragging, was a lot), and everything I had HOPED to gain. The boarding school here is only for juniors and seniors, so I could possibly gain something, but the people and the huge southern way the do things here are not my style, and the only reasons I'm staying is because my best friends from New Orleans are here and I'm hoping that my school in New Orleans might reopen. But I don't know if it will, and I don't know if I'mw illing to face the possible contamination of the city and the long-term effects it might/will have on my health.

I don't want to leave my friends here, but I don't see what there is to gain by staying here...

By the way, what are the best AP books for
US history
English Language
Bio
Spanish

And is it worth it to self-study chem and take AP Chem next year? thanks

I am so sorry that you and so many others have to go through this. You have my heartfelt concern and sympathy.

What would your living arrangements be in St. Louis? Were you happy when you were there? Do you actually want to go back there? If you stay where you are for now, would you be likely to be able to stay there for next year as well? Is there any reason to think that your school in New Orleans has a chance of being open next year? What does your family think about your situation?

I would be living a rented house or apartment. I was very happy when i was there, and didn't want to move to New Orleans. I am not going to stay here, there is just no way.

I do believe my school will reopen, but I don't know if going back would be the same or as safe. my family is willing to do whatever I decide is good for me at this point.

Well then what is holding you back? It sounds like St. Louis will be good for you. I would think, hope and expect that people there, too, would make an effort to ease the transition for you.

And, FWIW, my oldest son, now a freshman in college, had a distinct preference for Princeton Review AP books. He switched to them after using Peterson(?) for Bio.

Hey i'm really sorry about that, honestly I am, we know a family friend who just got married and moved to orleans a couple of months ago.. they're okay but they're belongings aren't. really devastating to hear such news.

It looks like Orleans will be destroyed for quite some time, I'd go back to your old school now and get a good start at the beginning of the year, since u dont wanna stay at your current boarding school. Several kids came back this year and they still have their old friends and it wasn't too too hard to get back in the 'community'. For Biology, Cliff's is the best, hand's down. And History, go with REA, you're guaranteed to make a 5 if you learn the book. good luck with everything, i hope it all works out. and you know, you can make this help you during college admissions cuz you've been thru so much, it could make you stand out more.
